DESCRIPTION:In this talk that is based on joint work with Paul Muhly we pr
 esent groupoid techniques that allow us to provide new proofs of the famou
 s theorems of Mallat on multiresolution analyses\, proofs that extend to m
 uch broader contexts than those conceived by Mallat. One key tool that we 
 use in our project is the concepts of groupoid correspondences and induced
  representations of groupods.
