DESCRIPTION:Kevin Warwick\, Professor for Cybernetics at reading and the "
World's first human cyborg" comes to answer one question: Are Cyborgs stil
l science fiction?\n \nA Cyborg is part human (or part animal) and part ma
chine. In his talk\, Prof Warwick will describe 4 different Cyborg experim
ents. A look is taken at how the use of implant and electrode technology c
an be employed to create biological brains for robots\, to enable human en
hancement and to diminish the effects of certain neural illnesses. In all
cases the end result is to increase the range of abilities of the recipien
ts.\n\nWe will look at a number of areas in which such technology has alre
ady had a profound effect\, a key element being the need for a clear inter
face linking a biological brain directly with computer technology.\n\nProw
Warwick will also consider the future in which robots have biological\, o
r part-biological\, brains and in which neural implants link the human ner
vous system bi-directionally with technology and the internet.\n\nEntry:
 £2 (free for SciSoc members)\n
