DESCRIPTION:In this one-hour talk\, I will briefly introduce how CASTEP wa
 s used to answer some questions important within the scientific community 
 of NLO crystal growth and characterization. A better understanding was pos
 sible with the help of utility tools developed in my research group at Tam
 kang University\, Taiwan.\n\nThe talk will be informal and open to spontan
 eous digressions or discussions in related directions. Time permitting\, I
  will report some recent minor technical progress\, followed by a few refl
 ections on challenges ahead.
