DESCRIPTION:Friday 24 October\, 13:00 - 14:00\n\nSpeaker: David Hodson\, U
niversity of Oxford\n\nTalk Title: Interrogating GPCRs from the Single Mol
ecule to the Whole Animal\n\nBiography: David Hodson is the Robert Turner
Professor of Diabetic Medicine at the Oxford Centre for Diabetes\, Endocri
nology and Metabolism\, University of Oxford. Originally a Veterinary Surg
eon by training\, David undertook postdoctoral studies at the CNRS\, Montp
ellier\, before establishing his independent laboratory at Imperial Colleg
e London as a Diabetes UK RD Lawrence Fellow. The lab is focused on develo
ping and using novel technologies to address challenging problems in cellu
lar metabolism\, with translational relevance for patients. We have partic
ular interest in glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1) and gastric inhibitory po
lypeptide (GIP) receptors\, two related class B G protein-coupled receptor
 s. Both receptors are involved in the regulation of glucose homeostasis\,
food intake and inflammation and as such have become major drug targets fo
r the treatment of diabetes and obesity. We are currently seeking to under
stand where and how GLP-1 and GIP receptors operate within complex tissues
such as the pancreas and brain.
