SUMMARY:Applications of the Unified Transform Method to Poroelastic Plates
in Flow - Dr Alistair Hales\, Virginia Tech University

DESCRIPTION:The unified transform method is a powerful tool for scattering
problems. Previously\, Dr Lorna Ayton and Dr Matthew Colbrook used the me
thod to develop a versatile and efficient framework for solving elastic sc
attering by collinear plates. In this talk\, we outline how this work has
been adapted to include uniform flow. We will introduce the method\, brief
ly compare it with its primary analytical competitor\, the Wiener–Hopf t
echnique\, and then discuss several sub-problems associated with adapting
the method to study pororelastic plates in grazing flow. Then\, we address
the future applications for which the method is well-suited to act as a b
ridge between fully analytical methods\, such as Wiener-Hopf\, and numeric
al alternatives like boundary integral methods.
