DESCRIPTION:I will introduce the on-going research program of the entangle
ment bootstrap\, which aims to provide a mechanism by which quantum field
theories may emerge from a quantum many-body system. After outlining the m
otivation and basic axioms concerning the fixed-point vacuum state\, I wil
l describe some of their consequences. In gapped theories satisfying an en
tanglement area law\, the axioms imply that topological charges can be def
ined and transported continuously across space. Consistency rules of fusio
n and braiding then emerge as consequences of entanglement properties. Rel
axing the axioms locally leads to natural definitions of defects and domai
n walls. I will conclude with some recent progress and possible future dir
 ections.
