DESCRIPTION:Galaxies do not form in isolation\, they grow within the large
scale filaments\, which affect their formation and evolution. However\, t
he extent to which the filaments shape galaxies has not been yet understoo
 d. Particularly\, how the proximity to filaments affects the ability of ga
laxies to accrete gas to sustain their star formation. Moreover\, the orie
ntation of a galaxy with respect to the filament can provide important ins
ights into its intrinsic properties. In this talk\, I will present the res
ults from the state-of-art radio survey MIGHTEE-HI conducted with the Meer
KAT radio telescope (an SKA pathfinder) and show how observations of neutr
al hydrogen in galaxies are instrumental to enhance our knowledge of galax
ies growth\, as well as shed the light on the star formation histories (SF
Hs) of spiral galaxies in relation to their large scale environment.\n
