DESCRIPTION:From unsettled to convivial conservation: how to marry radical
critique and radical alternatives?\n\nIt has become a truism that we live
in dangerous\, unprecedented times. The most radical movements responding
to this moment\, however\, seem to be promoting increasingly authoritaria
n ways forward. Many other actors\, including in conservation\, seem hesit
ant to part with or even critique capitalist business-as-usual\, even thou
gh many feel more radical action is needed in the face of dire biodiversit
y\, climate and social crises. All this is deeply unsettling for conservat
ion actors\, but also leading to new alliances\, actions and imaginaries.\
n\nA key question going forward\, therefore\, is: how to renew radical cri
tiques of capitalist conservation while simultaneously imagining\, organiz
ing and promoting radical conservation alternatives? In this seminar\, Pro
fessor Bram Büscher will reflect on the tensions between marrying radical
critiques and radical alternatives in conservation and explore potential
methods and platforms that push both of these\, including convivial conser
vation.\n\nFind out more and register here: https://www.cambridgeconservat
