DESCRIPTION:Abstract: There has been considerable excitement generated by 
 recent\nanomalies in galactic cosmic ray and gamma-ray observations\,\nind
 icative of dark matter annihilation or decay. It is essential to\nhave a r
 eliable evaluation of the astrophysical background in order to\nevaluate s
 uch claims. I will focus on the PAMELA\, Fermi and HESS data\nand discuss 
 whether these can be accommodated in the 'standard model'\nof galactic cos
 mic ray origin and propagation or whether new physics\nis really needed.\n
