DESCRIPTION:The Drosophila blastoderm is probably the best understood mode
l patterning system in developmental biology\, owing to its relative simpl
icity\, experimental tractability\, and half a century of intensive resear
ch. However\, 21st century advances in imaging and other areas have raised
as many questions as they've answered\, making the classic textbook model
s of Drosophila segmentation seem increasingly incomplete. I will present
a whistle-stop tour of ongoing projects in the lab\, touching on timer gen
 es\, GRN dynamics\, reaction-diffusion\, protein-protein interactions\, "m
 emory" effects\, and evolution.
