SUMMARY:Creating a physically accurate CEM model of the REACH for global 2
1-cm cosmology - Dr. John Cumner (Cavendish Astrophysics)

DESCRIPTION:I shall discuss gain pattern modelling with respect to observa
tional 21-cm science. A focus will be placed upon how our knowledge of the
physical structure of our instruments can impact their ability to success
fully perform a detection of the 21-cm signature from the early universe.
As an example case I shall discuss the REACH dipole radiometer\, currently
observing in the Karoo radio reserve South Africa\, including the evoluti
on of the construction and CEM models until this point and an overview of
what is currently being done to calibrate and compensate for the gain patt
 ern of the instrument.
