DESCRIPTION:Protein-coding genes account for only a small fraction of the
human genome. Much of the remaining non-coding DNA is of uncertain signifi
cance\, but at least a part of it regulates where and when genes will be e
xpressed. Deciphering this regulatory code is challenging but also crucial
for understanding how hundreds of cell types are generated from the same
genome during development\, how they change their function during evolutio
n\, and how we can harness these processes to engineer better cellular the
rapies. In my talk\, I will draw examples from my own research to illustra
te how recent advances in experimental methodology and machine learning ar
e revolutionising our ability to decode the regulatory genome.\n
