DESCRIPTION:Many people are concerned about AI. They see it as a black box
 \, making decisions which affect their lives\, and over which they have li
 ttle control. These concerns are to a certain extent justified\, and exten
 d across all levels of society\, from school children to policy makers. In
  this talk I will show how maths underpins AI and gives us a way of unders
 tanding many of the issues associated with it\, from bias to fake images\,
  and beyond. I will also describe how we can communicate this from science
  festivals\, to appearences in parliament.
