DESCRIPTION:A clear takeaway from recent observations of protostellar disc
s is that a large fraction of them show signs of environmental interaction
\, in the form of large scale spiral arms\, infalling streamers or compact
dust discs. I will discuss our attempts to explain various aspects of dis
c morphology from simple theoretical models and what I think it is telling
us about the overall picture of how protostellar discs evolve. I will als
o reflect on the 50-year-old question on the source of “viscosity" in pr
 otostellar discs.\n\n
