DESCRIPTION:Dobzhansky famously argued that "Nothing in biology makes sens
e except in\nthe light of evolution". In this talk I'll describe the resu
lts of two\nprojects that have taken his advice. First\, I'll show how we
have used\nevolutionary approaches to investigate whether long noncoding
RNA loci are\nlikely to be functional. Then\, I'll describe what might be
the fastest\nevolving human gene which now appears to be critical for spec
 ifying sites of\nrecombination.
