DESCRIPTION:In the field of heritage conservation in China\, more professi
 onal teams and scholars tend to accept the idea of public participation\, 
 which seems to have changed the past heritage conservation approaches and 
 mainstream. At the same time\, most of the conservation practices are stil
 l supported by the Chinese official authorities. Hence\, how should we exp
 lain such a phenomenon? Can we treat such practices involving the public i
 n China as “NEW” tendencies of heritage conservation? By discussing mu
 ltiple cases in China\, this talk focuses on the intertwined discourses an
 d motivations behind such cases and questions the future of public partici
 pation in the field of Chinese heritage conservation.\n\nSpeaker:\nWang Si
 yu\, is an assistant professor of the School of Archaeology and Museology\
 , Peking University\, director of Public Archaeology and Art Center in Pek
 ing University\, and research fellow of WHITRAP(Beijing). His current inte
 rests are about critical heritage studies\, heritage communities and new m
 useology\, and he has published over 50 academic articles about archaeolog
 ical site management and traditional village preservation in China.\n\nmee
