DESCRIPTION:This presentation introduces research into the discursive dime
nsion of comics that emerges from paratexts accompanying and framing the m
ain narrative—those tied to a comic’s content and form\, and others sh
aping broader contexts of reception and interpretation. The analysis cover
 s a range of paratexts: author commentaries\, forewords\, afterwords\, edi
torial materials such as covers\, blurbs\, and notes\, as well as media an
d fan interpretations influencing the circulation and impact of comics. Us
ing a close reading method tailored to comic art and enhanced by a medioli
nguistic perspective\, the talk demonstrates how paratexts co-create meani
ng\, affect reception\, and shape the discourse around the comic medium. D
rawing from Genette’s theory of paratext as a “threshold\,” it highl
ights how these elements function as productive contact zones between crea
tors and readers\, defining the cultural\, interpretive\, and aesthetic bo
 undaries of comics.
