DESCRIPTION:In 2013 I spoke at the Zangwill Club\, suggesting that we shou
ldn’t believe everything we read in the papers (https://talks.cam.ac.uk/
talk/index/41854). My argument was that a variety of individual and struct
ural factors conspire to undermine the veracity of much published research
. Since then\, we have had reports from major funders\, and a parliamentar
y inquiry into research reproducibility by the Science Innovation and Tech
nology Committee. However\, whilst evidence has grown that research qualit
y could be improved\, in practice little has changed. I will present furth
er evidence on the nature and scale of the problem\, the importance of com
munity efforts such as national Reproducibility Networks\, and suggestions
for how radical changes to scholarly communication may be necessary to ac
hieve real change.\n\nHost: Prof Dénes Szücs \n\nThis talk will be recor
ded and uploaded to the Zangwill Club "Youtube channel":https://www.youtub
 e.com/@zangwill_club in due course.
