DESCRIPTION:It has been known for several years that it is possible to con
struct exactly solvable lattice models in 2+1 dimensions which realize a w
ide range of `topological' phases\, which can be distinguished by their di
fferent `topological orders' characterizing the exotic statistics of the e
xcitations which such phases exhibit. I will focus on a particular class
of these models\, and describe a general prescription of how to tune the H
amiltonian through a condensation transition\, resulting in a new topologi
cal phase with non-trivial topological order. An intriguing feature of th
ese transitions is that\, for all of the models in the class I will discus
s\, the dynamics of the phase transition is that of the transverse field I
 sing model. \n\n
