DESCRIPTION:For Caribbean historians and heritage professionals\, engaging
with the region’s heritage has been challenging on many fronts. Heritag
e in the Caribbean is deeply contested as archives\, monuments\, and colle
ctions remain fragmented across the Atlantic\, while oral traditions\, mus
ic\, and ritual offer alternative ways of transmitting memory. These forms
often sit uneasily together\, shaped by pressures of erasure\, commodific
ation\, and climate vulnerability.\nThis seminar discusses the complex rel
ationship between Caribbean history\, heritage\, and the possibilities of
repair in the wake of slavery’s legacies. Arguing\, that repair must mov
e beyond symbolic gestures\, the seminar explores opportunities for collab
orative research\, capacity building\, and community access as pathways to
repair. Grounded in professional ethics\, heritage work must benefit desc
endant communities and strengthen trans-Atlantic scholarly networks precis
ely at a moment when climate change and digital technologies are reshaping
preservation.\n\nJoin the talk on Teams at this link: https://teams.micro
