DESCRIPTION:Machine learning (ML) methods are increasingly transforming th
e analysis and modeling of ocean biogeochemistry by enabling the extractio
n of complex\, nonlinear relationships from large and heterogeneous datase
ts. In this talk\, I will present recent applications of ML to improve the
reconstruction\, prediction\, and interpretation of key biogeochemical va
riables\, specifically primary production and flux of oraganic carbon. I w
ill highlight how data-driven approaches can complement traditional proces
s-based models\, enhance spatial and temporal coverage of observations\, a
nd provide new insights into the physical and biological drivers of ocean
biogeochemical variability. Finally\, I will discuss current challenges an
d future opportunities for integrating ML with mechanistic understanding t
 o advance ocean biogeochemical modeling.
