DESCRIPTION:The ATLAS experiment at the LHC is due for an extensive progra
 mme of updates during the Long Shutdown 3. Its current inner detector will
  be replaced by the ITk\, in this talk I will present an overview of the p
 ast R&D programme and current status and outlook for the production of the
  ITk strip detector.
