DESCRIPTION:Phonons are one of the most important quasiparticles in conden
 sed matter physics\; they influence a wide range of physical properties. H
 owever\, accurate experimental measurement of acoustic phonons is very dif
 ficult. In this seminar I will explain how phonons can be measured by cont
 rolling spin degree of freedom of helium atoms and why such measurement wi
 ll advance the characterization of phonons.
