DESCRIPTION:Abstract: The Jacobian of a complex projective curve C is a co
 rnerstone of algebraic geometry. This space is projective when C is smooth
  but non-compact otherwise. As a remedy\, a natural modular compactificati
 on—the compactified Jacobian—has been introduced\, which plays importa
 nt roles in algebraic geometry\, geometric representation theory\, and kno
 t theory. In this talk\, I will introduce compactified Jacobians and discu
 ss their geometry\, topology\, and relations to hyperkähler manifolds and
  enumerative geometry.
