DESCRIPTION:It is critically important for all microswimmers to be able to
reorient themselves in order to find food and to avoid toxins. The mechan
ism by which a bacterium with a single rigid flagellum may reorient is not
immediately obvious and is due to a buckling instability of the short\, f
lexible hook that connects the head to the flagellum. However\, there are
still several unresolved issues in modelling this process. In this talk\,
we present a discussion of these issues before presenting the results we h
ave obtained from modelling the system ourselves.\n
