DESCRIPTION:Broadberry et al argue that GDP per capita was flat from c.139
0-1650. This is the only metric used to measure economic development is GD
P per capita. Whittle and Whittle et al argue there was no change in the d
istribution of time use across the primary\, secondary and tertiary sector
s 1500-1700. Both accounts seem to suggest there was no economic developme
nt in this period. This work is flatly contradicted by a large and long-st
anding\, richly evidenced\, secondary literature on early modern economic
development which these authors ignore entirely. Data on occupational stru
cture are consistent with the existing secondary literature but allow us t
o quantify change reliably and for the first time.\n\nJoin us on Zoom:\nht
