 y approach to the initial developments of the Spanish Civil War within the
  context of the chaotic 1930s in continental politics reveals that the Spa
 nish Republic was doomed in the first hours of the protracted Civil War by
  decisions made across European capitals within 24 hours on a fateful day\
 , July 25th\, 1936. The research will also point to the paramount importan
 ce of Italian and German support on the Nationalist side of the war from t
 he earliest hours of the conflict\, following the failed coup d'État of J
 uly 18th.
