DESCRIPTION:Currently almost all current products and materials in our hom
es and cities are designed to be disposable to drive consumerism. This is
causing huge pollution and climate change. To address these problems we ne
ed to redesign practically everything and allowing us to replace consumeri
sm with another less polluting economic growth engine. Above all this will
require imagination and the development of new fields of materials scienc
e to remake our world. I give examples from my research group where we are
doing just this: building an imaginative research team that spans the art
s\, humanities and sciences and together making new materials that seem to
do the impossible.\n\nTalks are priced at £4 for non-Scientific Society
members. Scientific Society members will have free access to all our talks
. Lifetime membership costs £15 and gives free access to all talks\, memb
ers-only events and priority access to oversubscribed SciSoc events.\n
