 hematica is a software package for numerical computation\, symbolic manipu
 lation and the production of graphics from mathematical functions and data
 . This course is for beginners and new users of the package and describes 
 basic concepts and use of Mathematica.\n\nDuration: One half day session\n

 ls.\n\nPrerequisites:\n\n    * Knowledge of matrix algebra and simple calc
 ulus (including simple ordinary differential equations (ODEs)) is assumed.
 \n    * Those attending should be able to use a plain text editor (e.g. em
 acs\, gedit\, pico\, vi) on a Unix system as might be obtained from the Em
 acs or Vi introductory courses.\n\nTopics covered:\n\n    * User interface
 \n    * Mathematica language and syntax\n    * Functions\n    * Plotting s
 imple graphs\n    * Input/Output\n    * Solving a simple ordinary differen
 tial equation (ODE)\n\nSystem requirements: Mathematica v. 7 on PWF Linux\
 n\nNotes:\n\n    * No attempt is made to teach mathematical techniques.\n 
    * Attendees may also be interested in the "Mathematica: Graphics" and "
 Mathematica: Linear Algebra" courses.
