DESCRIPTION:Zhuangfang has spent a month with the conservation science gro
up working on her PhD. She will present some results from her time here:\n
\n"The shift in landuse from natural forest to rubber plantations in Xishu
angbanna\, China has been dramatic over the last thirty years and little n
atural forest remains. Two spatially-explicit maps of the net present valu
e (NPV) of rubber plantations and forest ecosystem service value (ESV) wer
e obtained using twenty years of government rubber yield records\, economi
c modeling\, remote sensing and geographical information syatem analysis.
Using the maps of rubber NPV and forest ESV\, I identified regions that ar
e practical targets for forest recovery and assess the effectiveness of di
fferent eco-compensation schemes in each location to support decision make
 rs in landuse planning."
