DESCRIPTION:St Catharine's College is pleased to welcome Dr Madsen Pirie f
 or the final event in this year's St Catharine's Lecture Series. Dr Pirie 
 graduated from Edinburgh\, St Andrews and Cambridge Universities. He is Pr
 esident of the free market think tank\, the Adam Smith Institute. Before t
 hat\, he was Professor of Philosophy at Hillsdale in Michigan.\n\nIn the I
 nstitute\, Dr Pirie was part of the team which pioneered policy innovation
 s such as privatisation. He was chosen as joint winner of the National Fre
 e Enterprise Award in 2010\, and is a senior visiting fellow in the Depart
 ment of Land Economy at Cambridge.\n\nHe has published books on political 
 economy\, philosophy\, IQ\, and children's science fiction. His latest wor
 k is _100 Great Philosophers_ (Continuum)\, and his hobbies include rocket
 ry and calligraphy.\n\nThe lecture will be followed by a wine reception\; 
 all are welcome.
