ng material - Professor John Willis\, DAMPT

DESCRIPTION:Recent general theory of Fleck and Willis is specialised to a
case of material which softens at high strain. The effects of softening ar
e mitigated by strain-gradient terms which may be either “energetic” o
r “dissipative” in character. Difficulties encountered during the stud
y of the stability of uniform simple shear deformation required the develo
pment of an approach which\, while standard for general studies of stabili
ty\, is somewhat unfamiliar (and usually unnecessary) in the context of ra
 te-independent plasticity.
