DESCRIPTION:It will be explained that the only theories compatible with fo
 ur requirements are classical probability theory and quantum theory. The r
 equirements are: (i) state spaces and subspaces with the same number of di
 stinguishable states are equivalent\, (ii) any pure state can be reversibl
 y transformed into any other\, (iii) states of bipartite systems are fully
  characterized by correlations between local measurements\, (iv) all mathe
 matically well-defined measurements are allowed by the theory.
