DESCRIPTION:Virtual Fields Method (VFM) is a flexible way to characterise 
 the mechanical properties of materials using straightforward computational
  analysis and standard(ish) mechanical test equipment. This talk will pres
 ent a first-principle derivations of the constitutive laws of continuum me
 chanics and the principle of virtual work\, then put the two together to d
 erive the VFM. Current experimental challenges and possible solutions will
  be illustrated.
