DESCRIPTION:This is a work-in-progress talk about Ticker. Ticker is a comm
unication program to assist visually impaired single switch users to type.
The alphabet is read to the user\, and the user selects letters with a si
ngle switch. The single switch can be any system that generates an event w
hen the person says "yes". A "yes" can\, for example\, be generated by a g
esture like smiling. Noisy click times are modeled by a non-parametric cli
ck distribution. We also make use of other information theory techniques t
o deal with erroneous clicks. To increase the speed of the system we make
use of stereo sound effects. Real-time demonstrations will be shown.
