DESCRIPTION:This talk will focus on the signal processing and human-comput
 er challenges involved in the Vital Responder project.\nThis is a CMU-Port
 ugal funded project with the main goal to provide secure\, reliable and ef
 fective first-response systems in critical emergency scenarios. To achieve
  this goal an interdisciplinary team with expertise in areas such as weara
 ble technology for vital signs\, biomedical signal processing\, sensor net
 works and RF Location/Intelligent buildings was formed.\nDuring this talk\
 , other projects in which the MediaLab research group at the University of
  Porto is involved will be presented: CAGE - Computer Assisted Gastroenter
 ology Examination\; DigiScope - DIGItally enhanced stethosCOPEs for clinic
 al usage\; T-Life - Therapeutic Learning of Facial Emotions.\n\n*About the
  speaker:*\n"Miguel Tavares Coimbra is an Assistant Professor at the Depar
 tment of\nComputer Science of the School of Sciences of University of Port
 o. He\nreceived his B.Sc. in Electrical Engineering and Computers in\nFacu
 ldade de Engenharia da Universidade do Porto\, Portugal\, and his\nPhD deg
 ree in Electronic Engineering from Queen Mary\, University of\nLondon in 2
 004. He worked as a post-doc researcher in medical imaging\nat IEETA-Unive
 rsidade de Aveiro in Portugal until September 2006. He\nhas 9 years of exp
 erience in Computer Vision\, 5 of which in Medical\nImaging and Biomedical
  Signal Processing research. He leads a team of\nPhD and Msc students\, ha
 s numerous publications on the field\, leads\none financed project and has
  participated as a researcher in 4\nfinanced projects involving clinical p
 artners. He is a co-founder of\nInstituto de Telecomunicações - Porto\, 
 founder of the Interactive\nMultimedia Group at IT-Porto\, an EURASIP loca
 l liason and a Technical\nAdvisor of the IEEE EMBS Portugal Chapter."
