DESCRIPTION:Saturated fusion systems are categories satisfying important f
eatures of\nfusion in finite groups.\nThey have been studied by algebraic
topologists\, modular representation\ntheorists and recently also by local
group theorists.\nMany concepts and results from finite group theory have
been translated\ninto the language of fusion systems. This makes it possi
ble to attempt a\nclassification of certain classes of saturated fusion sy
stems.\n\nWe will define minimal fusion systems in a way that every non-so
lvable\nfusion system has a section which is minimal. Minimal fusion syste
ms can\nbe seen as an analog of Thompson's N-groups whose classification s
et a\npattern for the classification of finite simple groups. I will repor
t on\nthe current progress of a project\, which aims to investigate minima
l\nfusion systems for arbitrary primes and to classify minimal fusion syst
 ems\nover $2$-groups.\n
