DESCRIPTION:Laser cooling relies on applying velocity selective optical fo
rces on an ensemble of atoms to increase an atomic sample's phase space de
nsity\, thereby cooling the atoms. In nearly all laser cooling schemes use
d so far\, both the velocity selectivity and the radiation forces were acc
omplished using optical transitions that couple ground atomic states to ex
cited states. In this talk I will present some of our recent work on laser
cooling using multi-photon and excited state transitions. I will discuss
some unexpected observations in a two-color Magneto-Optical Trap\, and the
applicability of similar techniques to laser cooling of certain "difficul
 t" atoms\, such as (anti)hydrogen.\n
