SUMMARY:New Build with Fibre Reinforced Polymer Shapes and Systems - J. To
 by Mottram (University of Warwick)

DESCRIPTION:The theme of my talk will be to introduce to you the execution
of Fibre Reinforced Polymer (FRP) shapes and systems in new build applica
tions. Following a summary on processing technologies for the thin-walled
components\, recent case studies will be presented to show why and how thi
s newer construction material is used in structural engineering. The talk
will also summarise research with FRP shapes at Warwick University and giv
e my thoughts on the drafting of a new Standard for Load Resistance Factor
Design (LRFD) of Pultruded Fiber-Reinforced Polymer Structures. Specific
reference will be given to the provisions for the design of bolted connect
ions and how one of the resistance formulae was formulated. To look into t
he future\, as we seek engineered solutions for low carbon construction\,
the talk will acquaint you with the Startlink lightweight building system
that is for the superstructure of housing units rated at Code level 6.
