DESCRIPTION:We present a novel approach to metaphor interpretation and a s
 ystem that\nproduces literal paraphrases for metaphorical expressions. Suc
 h a\nrepresentation is directly transferable to other applications that ca
 n\nbenefit from a metaphor processing component. Our method is distinguish
 ed\nfrom the previous work in that it does not rely on any hand-crafted\nk
 nowledge about metaphor\, but in contrast employs automatically induced\ns
 electional preferences. Being the first of its kind\, our system is capabl
 e\nof paraphrasing metaphorical expressions with a high accuracy (0.81).
