DESCRIPTION:This talk will introduce the principles of capillary electroph
oresis (CE)\, a technique of exquisitely high resolution for separation of
ionic species such as pharmaceuticals\, proteins and DNA. I will show how
separations can be rationally designed using basic principles of physical
chemistry. Instruments for parallel CE separations were the workhorses fo
r the human genome project\, and my talk will conclude with examples where
CE is the technique of choice in the fields of biopharmaceutics and clini
 cal diagnostics.
