DESCRIPTION:*Abstract*: During my PhD I was offered the chance to be an in
tern with the Oslo product team at Microsoft in Redmond. As a research stu
dent in program analysis with some industrial experience\, I was in the pr
ivileged position of being able to work on the design and implementation o
f a new programming language called M. After completing my PhD I accepted
a job offer to continue working with the Oslo team on the M programming la
nguage. In this talk I will describe my PhD work\, how it led me to my cur
rent job and what it’s like as a former research student in industry.\n\
n*Biography*: Andy Maule is a software development engineer at Microsoft C
orporation working on the M programming language as part of the Oslo proje
ct. He completed his PhD at University College London in 2009\, studying s
tatic analysis of programming languages to help mitigate the effects of da
tabase schema changes. His interests include programming languages\, progr
am analysis and software engineering process and tools.
