DESCRIPTION:I will discuss recent progress in extracting excited meson spe
ctra and radiative transition rates using lattice QCD. I will explain som
e of the techniques used\, but also emphasise results\, their interpretati
on and relevant experiments. Results on the light meson spectrum will be
presented where a combination of new techniques have enabled us to extract
a very extensive spectrum\, including many states with exotic quantum num
bers and\, for the first time\, spin-four states. I will also mention som
e results in the charmonium sector\, including the first lattice QCD calcu
lation of radiative transition rates involving excited charmonia\, highlig
hting results for exotic states and interpreting the results phenomenologi
cally. I conclude with some comments on future prospects.\n
