SUMMARY:Molecular electronics from thin films to single molecules - Dr J E
 myr Macdonald\, Cardiff University

CONTACT:Dr. Z Chen
DESCRIPTION:Grazing incidence diffraction is becoming a standard probe of
molecular packing in conjugated polymer thin films. Its use for probing s
tructural changes in real time during in-situ annealing of P3HT-PCBM photo
voltaic films will be described. \nIn the second part of the talk\, the I
-V behaviour of isolated conjugated butadiyne-linked porphyrins is describ
ed\, showing sensitive dependence on the detailed atomic geometry of the e
 lectrode contact. In contrast\, for self-assembled monolayers a single-p
eaked distribution was observed\, consistent with parallel conduction thro
 ugh many molecules.
