DESCRIPTION:Scientists are called upon to advise policy makers about risks
on topics ranging from drugs to disease\, from ash to alcohol. Often\, sc
ientists are able to say that there is a risk\, but that there is consider
able uncertainty about the size of the risk. As a consequence the appropri
ate course of action for evidence-based policy-makers may be unclear\, and
even if it is clear\, other factors may over-ride scientific advice. Agai
nst this background\, I will talk about how policy-makers react to scienti
fic advice\, illustrating with examples from current policy in relation th
 e health and the environment.\n\nEvent website here:\nhttp://www.crassh.ca
