DESCRIPTION:Flavour-changing transitions of charged leptons have been a to
pic of\nexperimental investigation since the early days of particle physic
s\, and\nthis helped shape some of the basic laws that any successful mode
l of\nparticle physics would have to obey\, including what we now call the
\nStandard Model.\n\nWhile such phenomena have never been observed to date
\, when the\ndiscovery of neutrino masses and oscillations broke the Stand
ard Model\,\nit transformed the question "Does charged lepton flavour viol
ation\nexist?" into "How much?" and "How?"\, and even "Why haven't we seen
it\nyet?".\n\nIn this seminar\, I will describe the current experimental
and\ntheoretical state of the field\, and why the next generation of\nexpe
riments could hold the keys that lead the way to a fuller\nunderstanding o
 f our universe\, offering complementary discoveries that\nexperiments at t
he high-energy frontier cannot reach.\n\nI will then focus on muon-to-elec
 tron conversion experimentation\, and\nspecifically the COMET/PRISM progra
mme which is promising a sensitivity\nimprovement of four orders of magnit
ude compared to the current record\,\npotentially improving to six orders\
, which could open the path to\nprecision measurements with multiple lepto
n flavour-violating probes of\nPhysics Beyond the Standard Model.
