DESCRIPTION:The presentation will focus mainly on single-crystal X-ray dif
 fraction studies of various organic and metal-organic molecular crystals w
 ith a view to understanding the relationships between structure and functi
 on.  More specifically\, properties of interest include (1) optical second
  harmonic generation as a result of polar ordering of guest molecules in i
 nclusion compounds\, (2) gas uptake by seemingly nonporous porous crystals
  and (3) anomalously large positive and negative thermal expansion.
