DESCRIPTION:It will be argued that neither the Tragedy of the Commons nor
the Theory of Wildlife Harvesting provide an adequate explanation of natur
al resources management. They cannot address the foremost predicaments of
our age - how to harvest resources without impoverishing the biosphere and
how to share resources without dividing society – because they do not i
ncorporate the core underlying process of resource competition. In this ta
lk I will briefly outline some recent developments in ecological competiti
on theory and then show how they can be used to justify a simple planning
framework for sustainable and equitable development of natural resources.\

 formation on Dr. Murray's work.
