DESCRIPTION:The knowledge of the temperature and velocity distributions in
a flow field can be of fundamental importance to understand the underlyin
g physical processes. The standard techniques employed for such investigat
ions are affected by different drawbacks like high intrusiveness\, high te
st times\, high equipment costs and complexity of operation. In order to o
vercome these drawbacks a new experimental technique is being developed. T
his provides a two-dimensional and simultaneous measurement of temperature
and velocity using a thermal sensor (high porosity grid) and a temperatur
e transducer (Infrared camera). \nThe presentation will describe the physi
cal and technical aspects of the technique and the scenarios in which it c
ould be successfully employed like\, for example\, gas flows in tunnels an
d buildings generated by fires and/or ventilation systems.\n
