DESCRIPTION:In 1985\, Beukers introduced the notion of supercongruences. T
 his term refers\nto the fact that a congruence holds modulo higher powers 
 of an odd prime p.\nExamples of supercongruences have been observed in the
  context of number\ntheory\, mathematical physics and algebraic geometry. 
 Currently\, there is no\nsystematic explanation for such congruences. In t
 his talk\, we discuss these\ndevelopments\, new results and future directi
 ons.\n
